Day 7 - We enjoyed another sunrise in Islamorada and knew our vacation was nearing its end, so we headed out for some gift shopping. Bass Pro Shop, Latitude 25 Clothing and Ocean Gardens Gift Shop had great finds! We enjoyed some time at the pool in the afternoon. At Checca you can also enjoy jet ski tours, parasailing and snorkeling, and massages to name a few other fun things. You will want to check out The Theater of the Seas seeing dolphins, parrots, sea turtles and more! We had a relaxing stay in the Keys and now we cannot wait until summer at the Jersey Shore!!

PS. If you are planning a trip to Checca Lodge this spring, you will want to check when they will be finishing the new pool they are installing down by the beach. There was not work when we were there but it is supposed to be done by May so make sure they are not working on it when you are there. The Checca Lodge sustained extensive damage after Hurricane Irma in Sept 2017. The hotel lobby had 4 feet of water and sand in it. And the docks were damaged as well as much of the property. They have done a miraculous job restoring this place. Check them out at mile marker 82!!

The Great Escape to the Florida Key

Day 6 - We went for a little bike ride around the area. (The bikes were definitely rusty but free!) Then played golf on their 9 hole golf course. (free as well) It was a lot of fun especially when we spotted a large iguana on the 8th hole! We had awesome grilled hamburgers for lunch poolside along with refreshing fruit drinks! For dinner we went a short distance to Chef Michael's another one of the top rated restaurants on Islamorada . Another must! I Started with conch chowder with a nice kick and my husband had outstanding steamed clams with bread for dipping! He really enjoyed his dinner of macadamia nut encrusted hog fish (mild white fish) with a delicious mango sauce and coconut rice! I had another absolutely remarkable pasta and seafood dish with scallops, shrimp and lobster! The best!!

Day 5 - We saw the forecast today was going to be chilly, 60 degrees, so we made plans to drive to Key West. We have been to Key West before so we were content to hop on the Trolley Tour and listen to the history of Key West & see the sights and sounds. We then headed to Hemingway's hangout "Sloppy Joes" for some sloppy joes! It was a nice outing for the day. After some walking around we headed back home! (If you ever go make sure you visit The Hemingway House, Truman's Little White House and Mel Fischer's Museum of deep sea treasures)

Day 4 - Another relaxing day at the Checca Lodge adult pool and then we had fun taking out paddle boards (free)! The temps were around 80 all week!  Another calm day. At the recommendation of our Captain we went to Ziggie & Mad Dogs for dinner. Always best to make reservations a day ahead! We like to eat early! From the outside I doubt if you were ever go to this restaurant but inside was classy and you would think you were in a NYC restaurant! Quaint bar, linen tablecloths, friendly staff ad exquisite food! The orig owner Ziggie was back in the Al Capone era. Later his partner was "Mad Dog" a Miami Dolphins NFL football player. Both are now deceased & the restaurant is run by Randy who was Mad Dog's partner. I enjoyed a fun cosmo with an orchid! We started with an exceptional chopped blue cheese wedge salad. I devoured the fresh "Shrimp Islamorada", jumbo shrimp with a buerre blanc sauce and parmesan spinach.  To die for! My husband had one of the best grilled steaks ever! Along with truffle mac & cheese!
